Genuinely glad to have you with us. Feel free to help yourself to all of the ale you want, despite what the drunken Tarutaru in the corner says. It doesn't all belong to him (well, most of it does).

Please help cure his drunkenness by drinking what you can! Or just distract him or something. Consider it a hazing ritual, as it were.
He is quite friendly with those he is familiar with, and although he wouldn't consider himself shy, he is not very out-going nor one to initiate a conversation.

Raphi is slightly obsessive compulsive in that he strives for perfection in himself and is often analytical of his own actions and is devastated by failure. He does not extend these expectations onto others though and is very patient with those around him. He prefers order and structure, as evident by his impeccably clean mog house and hygiene. These are personality traits about him that aren't easy to pick up, as he isn't very extroverted about his neuroticism.

Raphi has a somber, somewhat cynical sense of humor and takes pleasure in discussing the pessimisms of the world. He also has an interest in technology and weapons advancement and studies up on all the latest journals, although he is not mechanically inclined to invent or design on his own.

Not wanting to draw attention to himself, Raphi tries to avoid confrontation and provides as little information about himself as possible. He doesn't feel confident in his abilities to out-right lie, so he perfers truth by omission.

Raphi's temper is most tried when his gender is come into question or becomes the topic of conversation and he either dismisses himself from the conversation or tries to change the subject, as he believes he has heard every possible comment on the topic that could possibly be made and he is neither amused or patient concerning it.

Physical: Diplocoria (double pupil) of the right and left eye. A congenital condition Raphi was born with, leaving him with some increase sensitivity to light and a persistent problem with depth perception.

** CHARACTER HISTORY **

Raphi was born to a Mithra ranger during an Expeditionary Force raid in the Valdeaunia region. The party met with harsh weather and ended up stranded in the snowy plains for more than four months. Overwhelmed and exhausted, they retreated to the caverns of Thousandfall Ridge to wait out a harsh blizzard. There his mother gave birth unexpectedly - for all of her party members - to a baby boy. The Force hurried to return to San d'Oria, rushing in fear for the infant's well-being, and braved the storm. In the blinding gales they were ambushed by a party of demons and Raphi's mother and two other members fell against their blades.

Ronieul, leader the Expedition, protected Raphi and managed to lead his party onto Fauregandi and into Ranguemont Pass. The Force returned home defeated. Since Raphi's mother had no family to speak of in San d'Oria a debate was created on what to do with the kit. Mithra custom suggested that a male child should be sent to the homeland of Olzhirya, but Ronieul and a few others familiar with his mother considered her allegiance and loyalties to San d'Oria and agreed that it would be her wish for her child to be raised in the nation. As her former leader, Ronieul took Raphi and entrusted the care of Raphi to his sister and her husband, who he also lived with.

Raphi was raised with a profound Elvaan education. His two parents were religious fanatics and his uncle and mentor was a veteran of the war. The three Elvaan's helicoptered Raphi's upbringing, bombarding him with Altana theology and a knightly regimen of exercises and an education of ethics and morality. At the age of 14 Raphi pledged himself to the Cathedral and began work as a apprentice friar.

At 15 he was granted leave to the Kolshushu and Sarutabaruta regions to do a study on the Ancient Tower Ruins that seemed to be causing deforestation and desertification across the land. The friar’s whom placed Raphi on this mission theorized that this may have had something to do with the godlessness that consumed the Windurstian nation and with enough evidence hoped to mount a missionary force to correct the infidelity of the Tarutaru, Mithra, and Yagudo peoples.

Young and stupid, Raphi eventually ventured closer and closer to Giddeus and conducted interviews with Yagudo he could locate who were non-aggressive and capable of speaking the common tongue. These amicable relationships lasted little more than a week before Raphi ultimately offended a large group of Yagudo by trying to minister to them. He was mobbed and imprisoned deep within the nest for the crime of heresy.

Raphi remained in Giddeus for a year, during which he was tortured and reprogrammed to the teachings of the Yagudo faith and alliance to Godhead and current Manifest, Tzee Xicu. Raphi was sworn to spy on the nation of Windurst and the activities within the city of Jeuno and report them back to Giddeus. As a Mithra, the Yagudo agreed, Raphi would assimilate easily within Windurstian society, and his background of being raised in San d'Oria would explain for any strange temperament or behavioral oddities he might have as a mere difference of culture.

The Yagudo were pleased with the result of Raphi's brainwashing as he showed no outward signs of anxiety or traumatic stress from the whole ordeal. His personality nicely reshaped to what it once was, quiet but not untrustworthy; stoic but not antisocial. Although he now lacked the devoted faith to Altana that was impressed upon in his youth, he still would acknowledge the Goddess if pressed, though is allegiance was now to Tzee Xicu.

Raphi spent the next year getting his paperwork in order and quietly revoking his citizenship in San d'Oria and applying for citizenship in Windurst. The quickest way of doing so, of course, was applying to Windurst as an adventurer and starting there from scratch. His offical citizenship documents changed his given name of Raphieul Berlands to a more appropriate sounding Mithran name, Raphi Berlan.

Now Raphi confidently works to improve his reputation in Windurst and venture on to explore the city of Jeuno. With a newfound freedom away from the stifling doctrine of San d'Orian theology, Raphi has discovered that he's quite interested in guns and marksmanship and of technological advancements such as airship design and crystal energy. In his free time he studies these subjects, defending his newfound passion to the Yagudo as just another mechanism for assimilation into the culture of adventurers.
